What is Prithvi Mudra?


In Sanskrit, 'Prithvi' means earth, and 'mudra' means hand gesture. Hence, Prithvi Mudra helps in awakening the element of earth in our body. Prithvi Mudra can improve stamina, relieve fatigue, and promote the growth of tissues. It can be used to treat osteoarthritis, brain tumors, and heal wounds. This mudra especially works to create balance by destroying the increased fire element in the body, hence it is also called Agni Shamak Mudra.


How to do Prithvi Mudra


  • Choose comfortable clothes and easy access to practice Prithvi Mudra.
  • Sit in Sukhasana or Padmasana, whichever posture you can remain stable for a long time.
  • Keep the palms of both hands open on the knees of both legs. Keep in mind that the palms are opening upwards.
  • Take care of each part of the body in turn and leave it loose. In this way, bring the whole body to a state of rest.
  • Take a few long breaths in and exhale comfortably. In this way bring the mind to the present and control the breath.
  • Now bend the ring finger inside the ring finger and press its knuckles with the thumb. Bring the fingers of both hands in a similar earth posture.
  • Prithvi Mudra After getting stable in the earth pose, close both eyes and concentrate completely on the process of breathing.
  • Practice Prithvi Mudra for at least 20 – 40 minutes daily for effective results. If you want, you can divide it half-and-half in two times of the day.

Things to keep in mind while doing Prithvi Mudra

  1. If you have back pain or any kind of back problem, practice this posture once after talking to the doctor.
  2. Practice this mudra only after one to one and a half hour of having food. Don't do it in between. It means to say that practice Prithvi Mudra with an empty stomach.
  3. Prithvi Mudra Use any easy for Prithvi Mudra, do not let the body touch directly from the ground or floor.
  4. Except for the index finger and your thumb, keep all the other fingers absolutely straight during the practice of Prithvi Mudra.
